How To Stop Feeling Guilty About A Mistake - Santa Clara Eating Disorder Counselor

I'm a Santa Clara Eating Disorder Counselor. In this video I go on a rant.

I'm a bit hesitant to post this because I emotional, but I felt like practicing what I preach would be the best thing.

One of the things I preach to overcome guilt about making a mistake is sharing your feelings with someone you trust.

This person needs to just be able to listen, and not judge you.

This is one of Brene Brown's key steps from her book The Gifts of Imperfection which I have loved dearly to read. You can get the book on Amazon here: https://amzn.to/2YcmWi2

Other steps to stop feeling guilty around a mistake involve practicing Mindful Self Compassion. This model of healing was developed by Dr. Kristin Neff.

You can watch Kristin advocate for these 3 powerful transformative steps in this Youtube video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11U0h...

Her self-healing model incorporates a few steps like:

- shifting your perspective around you versus the rest of the world
- lowering your expectations
- realizing you are not alone
- allowing yourself to feel pain

And realizing that you do care and it's okay to be upset and in shame.

It also involves two key aspects - listening and learning.

The learning aspect is where you reflect on why and what factors caused the shame and guilty to hit you so hard.

For me, my factors were not getting enough sleep.

Not getting enough sleep is one of the 4 pillars of health, which you can learn about here in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3veOcvJmbc
